| Cowboy Ted gets married
- uses books to teach kids about rodeo

Salt Lake City radio personality and rodeo journalist "Cowboy
Ted" has decided to hang his hat in Bountiful, Utah and call
it home along with his new wife Jenny. The couple was recently married
during a private wedding ceremony held in Bountiful in late July.
They now plan to reach out together and teach kids about rodeo,
horse racing and healthy lifestyles with the help of books written
by Cowboy Ted.
Ted is currently serving as a spokesperson for the American Cancer
Society of Utah and will become a national spokesperson for the
American Cancer Society by the end of summer.
He most recently served as host of the morning show on KGNT 103.9
in Logan, as well as, taking on duties at Utah State University
as an instructor in the PE department.
Cowboy Ted has hosted weekly rodeo features for K-Bull 93 in Salt
Lake City and he also hosted a segment called the Cowboy Minute
for the Salt Lake affiliate for Radio Disney.
He hosted similar rodeo radio programs for KKAT (now K-102) and
AM 700 ~ Classic Country in Salt Lake. He has also worked for radio
stations in central California and southeast Missouri.
Cowboy Ted has written a number of rodeo stories for publications
across the United States, including Competitor News, Humps N' Horns,
Ropers Sports News, and American Cowboy magazine. He has served
as a credentialed journalist at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo,
Olympic Command Performance Rodeo in Salt Lake, and at the top rodeo
events in the USA. He also announces a number of rodeos and athletic
events each year.
Cowboy Ted served as sports director for KGNT 103.9 and KNFL 104.9
while he was in Logan. He has experience in the sports field - after
hosting sports-talk shows for two radio stations in Fresno, California
and then serving as the sports information director at Salt Lake
Community College and San Francisco State University.
He will split time between Bountiful and Logan as he makes healthy
lifestyles presentations in the Salt Lake Valley throughout the
year, as he will also continue to teach PE classes at Utah State.
The longtime educator is a graduate student, as well as, teaching
assistant for PE classes at Utah State University. He is completing
his coursework in the Health, Physical Education & Recreation
department as for a Master's degree in Education.
The popular radio personality has been involved with education
for over 15 years and around the rodeo and horse world for his entire
life. He has taught communications classes at Salt Lake Community
College and UVSC, along with teaching stints at high schools and
elementary schools.
He was twice honored as Teacher-of-the-Year for the Upward Bound
programs in Missouri and California. Cowboy Ted makes regular visits
to schools and libraries to visit with young people to encourage
them to read, do well in school and lead healthy lifestyles.
He also keeps busy with visits to schools and libraries throughout
Utah. Cowboy Ted's visits are about an hour in length and include
roping demonstrations and words of encouragement about the values
associated with a Healthy Lifestyle, including healthy food choices,
exercise, remaining tobacco-free and alcohol-free, good citizenship,
and the value associated with reading books.
He reads a story to the children during each visit and also provides
youngsters with a printed list of his favorite titles and authors
for young readers. Cowboy Ted concludes each visit with a chance
for kids to personally try their hand at roping the "indoor
bull" then he signs autographed bull riding photos for the
young readers. He also extends an invitation to become junior cowboys
and cowgirls by joining the Cowboy Ted's Kids Club (at no cost).
The longtime educator is the founder of the Cowboy Ted's Kids Club
and the Cowboys Against Tobacco program, which encourages young
people to lead healthy lifestyles. He also writes rodeo-related
stories for a host of horse & rodeo publications across the
United States and serves as a tobacco education spokesperson for
the American Cancer Society.
Cowboy Ted has introduced a new Rodeo coloring book to encourage
kids to become involved with reading along with learning about the
sport of rodeo.The Cowboy Ted Rodeo Coloring Book consists of 12-pages
of rodeo pictures for
kids to color as they learn more about the sport of rodeo.
Logan Coach Trailers, Camp Chef, American Cancer Society, Meadow
Gold Dairies, and S & S Barns and Buildings provided the initial
seed money to fund the coloring book project and all proceeds go
directly toward the Cowboys Against Tobacco program.
The Cowboy Ted's Kids Club and the three versions of coloring books
are the culmination of a lifelong dream of Cowboy Ted "to be
able to touch the lives of a million kids in a positive way."
"I want kids to get excited about rodeo and horses - along
with reading books so they can become lifelong fans of reading."
Cowboy Ted reported.
"We are also working on a series of children's books to help
young people learn about different aspects of the horse world as
well as healthy lifestyle choices." He has also published a
Healthy Lifestyles Coloring Book and is in the process of reprinting
that coloring book along with a coloring book about Horse Racing.
