Cowboy Ted gets married
- uses books to teach kids about rodeo

By: Cowboy Ted

Salt Lake City radio personality and rodeo journalist "Cowboy Ted" has decided to hang his hat in Bountiful, Utah and call it home along with his new wife Jenny. The couple was recently married during a private wedding ceremony held in Bountiful in late July. They now plan to reach out together and teach kids about rodeo, horse racing and healthy lifestyles with the help of books written by Cowboy Ted.

Ted is currently serving as a spokesperson for the American Cancer Society of Utah and will become a national spokesperson for the American Cancer Society by the end of summer.

He most recently served as host of the morning show on KGNT 103.9 in Logan, as well as, taking on duties at Utah State University as an instructor in the PE department.

Cowboy Ted has hosted weekly rodeo features for K-Bull 93 in Salt Lake City and he also hosted a segment called the Cowboy Minute for the Salt Lake affiliate for Radio Disney.

He hosted similar rodeo radio programs for KKAT (now K-102) and AM 700 ~ Classic Country in Salt Lake. He has also worked for radio stations in central California and southeast Missouri.

Cowboy Ted has written a number of rodeo stories for publications across the United States, including Competitor News, Humps N' Horns, Ropers Sports News, and American Cowboy magazine. He has served as a credentialed journalist at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, Olympic Command Performance Rodeo in Salt Lake, and at the top rodeo events in the USA. He also announces a number of rodeos and athletic events each year.

Cowboy Ted served as sports director for KGNT 103.9 and KNFL 104.9 while he was in Logan. He has experience in the sports field - after hosting sports-talk shows for two radio stations in Fresno, California and then serving as the sports information director at Salt Lake Community College and San Francisco State University.

He will split time between Bountiful and Logan as he makes healthy lifestyles presentations in the Salt Lake Valley throughout the year, as he will also continue to teach PE classes at Utah State.

The longtime educator is a graduate student, as well as, teaching assistant for PE classes at Utah State University. He is completing his coursework in the Health, Physical Education & Recreation department as for a Master's degree in Education.

The popular radio personality has been involved with education for over 15 years and around the rodeo and horse world for his entire life. He has taught communications classes at Salt Lake Community College and UVSC, along with teaching stints at high schools and elementary schools.

He was twice honored as Teacher-of-the-Year for the Upward Bound programs in Missouri and California. Cowboy Ted makes regular visits to schools and libraries to visit with young people to encourage them to read, do well in school and lead healthy lifestyles.

He also keeps busy with visits to schools and libraries throughout Utah. Cowboy Ted's visits are about an hour in length and include roping demonstrations and words of encouragement about the values associated with a Healthy Lifestyle, including healthy food choices, exercise, remaining tobacco-free and alcohol-free, good citizenship, and the value associated with reading books.

He reads a story to the children during each visit and also provides youngsters with a printed list of his favorite titles and authors for young readers. Cowboy Ted concludes each visit with a chance for kids to personally try their hand at roping the "indoor bull" then he signs autographed bull riding photos for the young readers. He also extends an invitation to become junior cowboys and cowgirls by joining the Cowboy Ted's Kids Club (at no cost).

The longtime educator is the founder of the Cowboy Ted's Kids Club and the Cowboys Against Tobacco program, which encourages young people to lead healthy lifestyles. He also writes rodeo-related stories for a host of horse & rodeo publications across the United States and serves as a tobacco education spokesperson for the American Cancer Society.

Cowboy Ted has introduced a new Rodeo coloring book to encourage kids to become involved with reading along with learning about the sport of rodeo. The Cowboy Ted Rodeo Coloring Book consists of 12-pages of rodeo pictures for
kids to color as they learn more about the sport of rodeo.

Logan Coach Trailers, Camp Chef, American Cancer Society, Meadow Gold Dairies, and S & S Barns and Buildings provided the initial seed money to fund the coloring book project and all proceeds go directly toward the Cowboys Against Tobacco program.

The Cowboy Ted's Kids Club and the three versions of coloring books are the culmination of a lifelong dream of Cowboy Ted "to be able to touch the lives of a million kids in a positive way."

"I want kids to get excited about rodeo and horses - along with reading books so they can become lifelong fans of reading." Cowboy Ted reported.

"We are also working on a series of children's books to help young people learn about different aspects of the horse world as well as healthy lifestyle choices." He has also published a Healthy Lifestyles Coloring Book and is in the process of reprinting that coloring book along with a coloring book about Horse Racing.

Single copies of the Cowboy Ted Coloring Books are priced at $1 and are available at Saddle-Up Western Wear in South Jordan, or by contacting: Cowboy Ted's Kids Club 6914 S. Redwood Rd. #322 West Jordan, Utah 84084.
