Cody Hancock (a former member of the rodeo team at College of Southern
Idaho in Twin Falls and a previous Wilderness Circuit Finals bullriding
champion) continued his big-rodeo winning ways. The Taylor, Ariz.,
bull rider won the 2000 world championship last Dec. during NFR
in Las Vegas.
He also won the champion's buckle at the winter Copenhagen Cup
Finale in Las Vegas in June. He recently duplicated that feat in
Dallas with a final-round ride of 93 points on Bailey Rodeo's Skoal
Grey Cat to win the summer Wrangler Pro Tour Finals.
Hancock took home a check from Dallas worth $18,500 to solidfy
his top-10 position in the PRCA's world standings. The current world
bullriding title holder is primed for a return trip to Las Vegas
to defend his title at NFR in Dec.
Hancock will also represent the United States during the Olympic
Command Performance Rodeo in Salt Lake City during the Winter Olympics.
Lan LaJeunesse of Morgan, Utah also earned a big check worth $19,000
at the summer Finale in Dallas to close the gap beween he and his
traveling partner Kelly Wardell in the race for the world bareback
title. They are first and second in the world standings.
LaJuenesse is only $7,000 behind Wardell who happens to be the
barback standings leader and LaJeunesse's longtime traveling partner.
The Utah native was edged out of the bareback title in Dallas by
Larry Sandvick and now LaJeunesse will have one final chance to
earn a spot on the Olympic squad and the opportunity to compete
during the Olympic Command Performance Rodeo to be held in Salt
Lake in Feb.
His final opportunity will come during NFR in Dec. and the 1999
World Bareback champion will have to edge out his traveling partners
Kelly Wardell and Rocky Steagal (both have qualified for the Olympic
squad) in order to earn that final spot on the U.S. team when thay
face Canada during the Olympic event to be held in LaJeunesse's
home state of Utah in Feb.
Brock Andrus of St. George, Utah won $15,750 in Dallas during the
steer wrestling event to give him $63,347 in the PRCA's world standings.
The big check also moved the Utah cowboy from 22nd to sixth in the
world standings and a step closer to his second trip to NFR.
Blue Stone of Ogden is also looking for a trip to NFR as he is
currently ranked 11th in the PRCA's Wolrd Bull riding Standings
with $62,450 going into the final qualifying rodeo of the season
during the Grand National Rodeo to be held at the Cow Palace in
San Francisco the last week in Oct. and first week of Nov.
Danyelle Campbell of St George is making a late season push to
move into the top-15 and qualify for a return trip to NFR after
qualifying for the Dec. champ[ionship rodeo in the late 90's. Less
than $5,000 separates Campbell from a qualifying spot for NFR in
the barrel racing event.
The Utah and Idaho cowboys and cowgirls compete in the Wilderness
Circuit Finals Nov. 1-3 at the Golden Spike Arena in Ogden.
