'Cowboy Ted' urges youngsters to avoid drugs and alcohol
By an early age kids have been warned over and over about the dangers of drinking and smoking, yet millions take up the deadly habits every year.
By combining common sense with some cowboy flare, "Cowboy Ted" Hallisey urges Rapid City youngsters to make good decisions like saying no to tobacco. Hallisey, a former rodeo cowboy who works as a radio DJ in Salt Lake City, travels the country spreading his message through a unique style that young audiences love.
"A lot of statistics show that if kids are having fun they're going to retain the information," said Hallisey, who spoke at Grandview Elementary and Horace Mann Elementary on Monday. "So we try to have fun with it but still deliver the message for healthy lifestyles and telling them if they make some of these decisions now that they can have a healthy lifestyle throughout the course of their life."
Hallisey's message goes beyond cigarettes, drugs and alcohol, he also urges kids to eat right, exercise and work hard in school.
