Cowboy Ted’s Healthy Lifestyles Assembly

Presentation Outline ~ 45 Minutes

Introduction by Principal/Health Educator
Welcome to Students and Teachers
Introduce myself and describe what is going to happen today.
Talk about my background in rodeo, radio, TV, newspaper, and education.
List my credentials to qualify me to talk to kids about good health, reading, goal setting.
List the benefits of being healthy – use self as example and role model.
Praise the teachers as the TRUE HEROS

Introduce Guests – Highlight Health Department staff in attendance – Focus as resource

Ask who wants to rope the BULL
Explain that we are going to have teachers Pick 8 Ropers – normally the most quiet kids.

Describe 8 Rules to Audience ~ Provide a short description and example of each rule.
Remind them that the 8-rules are symbolic of 8-second ride in RODEO.
Introduce AS MANY AS IT TAKES credo

  1. Respect Parents - Listen To Your Parents – they provide for basic needs
  2. Lead Healthy Lifestyles – 5 food groups – brush teeth – drink water – exercise 30min.
  3. Work Hard in School – computers – writing skills – college – read 20 minutes/day
  4. Be Nice to Others – friendship and acceptance add to mental health
  5. Be Kind to Animals – animals add to emotional health
  6. Set Goals – Spelling test (A) – College – Teacher – Media Personality
  7. No Drugs Tobacco Alcohol – Effects on brain and body responses
  8. Do One Nice Thing for Another Person Every Day

Ask again – who wants to rope the BULL – most quiet students

Ask students - How many times will we try before they give up?
Reinforce AS MANY AS IT TAKES
Explain rules for roping on stage
No roping people–respect personal space–Conflict resolution (paper-rock-scissors)
CT Roping Demo ~ Rope the Bull ~ on stage ~ left-handed & right handed
REMINDER – How many times to we try? AS MANY AS IT TAKES
Invite~Female Teacher~Male Teacher~Principal~Mascot~Health staff
Come up on stage and rope the BULL.
