The human body has a natural fight or flight response, which prepares you to fight to defend yourself against danger - or take flight and run away from danger.
Nightmares can cause us to feel fear - when there is no real danger.
If you’re having nightmares - right before you go to sleep – really think about the scary movie or scary things in your dreams - and ask yourself if they are real or imaginary.
This allows your brain to remind your body - that it really doesn’t need to fight or take flight and should help you relax - before you fall sleep.
Healthy kids are no accident. When you are afraid of something, ask yourself if you are in real or imaginary danger and then take action to either fight, take flight or relax.
